Tornado confirmed in Manitoba’s Parkland Region

A tornado touched down in Manitoba’s Parkland Region over the weekend as severe weather continued across the province.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) confirmed a Sunday night tornado near Rossburn. The weather agency added that the Northern Tornadoes Project is expected to go out to the area to get more information.

Barb Inkster witnessed the tornado near Rossburn while driving on Highway 16 and pulled over to get a look.

“I originally pulled over because I could see it starting to form,” she wrote in a message to CTV News. “It was swirling around so fast.”

“Then it touched ground, was moving and getting bigger.”

ECCC is also reporting a possible tornado near Roblin, noting that more details are expected later on Monday.

In terms of Sunday night rain, much of western Manitoba got between 20 and 30 millimetres. Higher totals were seen in San Clara, which received 80. 9 millimetres; Lake Audy, which got 45.8 millimetres; and Swan River, which saw 33.5 millimetres.
