Thousands of residents are without power in Winnipeg after severe weather Sunday night damaged utility poles and brought down trees. Manitoba Hydro said about 4,000 customers were without power in and around River Heights and Westwood as of Monday morning, after crews restored power in some areas overnight. High winds, heavy rain and lightning broke poles, brought large trees down on power lines and caused other damage in some areas, the Crown corporation said in a news release. It added that more stormy weather forecast for Monday could cause further damage and delay repairs to existing outages. Manitoba Hydro says people should not approach damaged areas or crews at work, and should stay at least 10 metres away from downed power lines. This is a developing story and will be updated.
