Up to 20 cm of snow possible in parts of Manitoba: ECCC

Springtime snowfall will feel like more of a wintry wallop for parts of southern Manitoba on Monday.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued special weather statements for parts of southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario, thanks to a Colorado Low.

Much like snowfall last week, the highest amounts are expected in the southwest, where the weather agency said five to 10 centimetres is expected in most areas.

That said, ECCC said a heavier band of snow could drop 10 to 15, even 20 centimetres, primarily over the Parkland region.

The weather agency forecasts less snowfall for Winnipeg, with two for four centimetres possible Monday afternoon and similar amounts on Monday night.

Northeast winds will also be strong and gusty as the snow falls across southern regions on Monday.

Under the alert issued for northwestern Ontario, ECCC said 10-15 centimetres of snowfall is expected between Monday night and Tuesday evening.

The weather agency noted the track of the low-pressure system is uncertain, so the axis of heaviest snowfall could change if the track changes, too.

Snow is expected to end overnight in southwestern Manitoba, before tapering off in Winnipeg and the southeast on Tuesday.
