River Trail at The Forks closed due to warm temperatures

The Nestaweya River Trail at The Forks is closed to the public due to the warm weather in Winnipeg.

Less than two weeks after it opened for the season, a popular winter attraction has closed due to the weather.

The Forks announced Tuesday that it had closed the Nestaweya River Trail due to the warm temperatures.

“There was just too much standing water and a lot of slush,” said Blair Malazdrewich, communications and marketing manager for The Forks. “It’s not exactly the safest experience you want.”

In addition to the trail being shut down on the river, the rink under the canopy is closed.

Malazdrewich said crews at The Forks assess conditions each morning and decided it wasn’t optimal for skating.

“We just want to make sure conditions are the best for people to get out and enjoy them,” he said.

The rink at the CN Stage and the upper overland trails remain open. Status of trails can be found by visiting The Forks’ website.
