Prairie Theatre Exchange reveals lineup for 2026-2027

Downtown Winnipeg’s theatre company is planning to travel back in time – all the way to 1901, for its upcoming season.

On Friday, the Prairie Theatre Exchange announced its lineup for 2026-2027. Celebrating its 54th season, the company will present five stories from October 2026 to April 2027, along with two family-themed bonus productions.

“Our 2026-27 season of all-Canadian plays will shed some light on the here and now by taking you to across time and space – to a 1930s hockey rink, a hysterically awkward dinner party, the 1901 London home of two newlyweds, a small Indian restaurant and a deserted hill overlooking a darkened city,” Ann Hodges, artistic director of the company, said in a media release.

“You’ll see stories of grit, heart and the kind of chance encounter that can give life a brand-new direction.”

Tracey Power’s Glory, inspired by the true story about one of Canada’s first women’s hockey teams, starts the season in October 2026.

Samantha Machado’s dark comedy, The Incomplete Dictionary of Lexical Gaps, will showcase “a darkly funny drama that attempts to define the indefinable.”

One of the two family-themed bonus productions, Munschbusters! will be available for the holiday period.

Walking into 2027, Johnna Wright and Patty Jamieson will reboot Patrick Hamilton’s 1938 play Gaslight with a “gripping new twist.”

Behind the Moon by Anosh Irani will take over the stage in February and March 2027, with Steven Gallagher and Anton Lipovetsky’s The Blackout finishing up the season.

In May 2027, Dezarae Meade’s adaptation of Nanabush and the Spirit of Thunder by Daphne Odjig will be available as another family-themed bonus show.
