Number of incidents at Millennium Library drop to start year: report

A new report sheds light on the number of incidents at Winnipeg's largest library this year.

A new report shows the number of incidents at Winnipeg’s Millennium Library has dropped over the past year.

The quarterly report for incidents at public libraries was released as part of the community services committee’s upcoming agenda.

The report found between January and March of this year there were 201 incidents, a 35 per cent drop from the same time in 2025, where 309 incidents were reported.

Inappropriate behaviour was the most common incident reported, with 82 total incidents reported in the first quarter of 2026 compared to 156 in the same time frame last year.

Visitors to the Millennium Library, however, dropped 15.6 per cent in the first quarter of 2026, compared to the first quarter of 2025. The report noted buses stopped operating on Graham Avenue in June of 2025, which may have an impact on the number of visitors to Millennium Library.

Visits to all library branches were up half a percent compared to the first quarter of 2025, with 509,115 people visiting all Winnipeg library branches.

The report also looked at incidents at all library branches in the city and found a 16.3 per cent decrease at all branches compared to 2025. A total of 417 incidents were reported at the libraries, down from 498 in 2025.

The report will be discussed when the committee meets on June 9.
