Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) is opening a second hail response centre dedicated to the more than 25,000 claims it received following the June 9 storm. The Crown corporation announced the new claims centre on Thursday, saying the spring storm resulted in the largest number of claims it has ever received from a single weather event. MPI said the new location at its Main Street Service Centre will offer initial damage assessment appointments for customers in Winnipeg and the surrounding areas. Across the two locations, MPI will now offer 400 daily appointments. After opening a claim, customers will be contacted with information about how to book at one of the hail response centres. The Crown corporation added that it’s completing initial damage assessments at its Arborg service centre due to the more than 200 claims opened in the Interlake region. MPI’s initial claims centre opened at its Gateway location last week and has completed 1,800 assessments so far. More information on opening a claim is available online.
