Manitoba to test alert system today

The Province of Manitoba is set to test its emergency alert system Wednesday afternoon.

The province’s emergency management organization said at 1:55 p.m. CDT, the National Public Alerting System, Alert Ready, will send an emergency alert test message.

The alert will be sent through multiple channels.

“Testing of all components is an important and necessary part of any public alerting system,” the province said. “It provides an opportunity to validate and improve the end-to-end performance and reliability of the system to ensure it operates as intended on TV, radio and compatible wireless devices.”

The test in Manitoba is one of many occurring across the country, including all provinces and territories except for Quebec.

The alert will be sent to TV, radio and compatible wireless devices, though the province noted not all Manitobans will receive the alert on their phones.
