Manitoba city breaks 120-year-old heat record

A handful of Manitoba communities set new heat records on Sunday after temperatures soared well past seasonal highs through much of the province.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), Portage la Prairie recorded a high of 30 C on Sunday, besting its previous record of 28.9 C set over a century ago in 1905.

Gimli and Arnes also had a record-setting weekend, with the mercury peaking in both communities at 27.3 C, which surpasses both previous records of 26.1 C set in 1976.

Meanwhile, Carberry, Deerwood, Fisher Branch, McCreary and Pinawa all shattered previous records set in 2021.
