A 49-year-old man is facing an impaired driving charge following a crash that caused extensive damage near downtown Winnipeg on Sunday morning. According to Winnipeg police, officers were called to the area of Balmoral Street and Sargent Avenue just before 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. Investigators allege a 49-year-old man was driving a 2005 Ford Mustang at a high speed east on Sargent Avenue. When he tried to turn onto Balmoral Street, he allegedly lost control and hit a bus shelter, Manitoba Hydro pole and a traffic signal box. Police said the vehicle came to a stop with its front wheels suspended off the ground. When they spoke with the driver, officers allege he was impaired by alcohol and was taken into custody. No injuries were reported. The driver is facing a charge of impaired driving and was released on an appearance notice. The charge has not been proven in court.
