A 16-year-old boy has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of an Edmonton girl. Jazmin Dhesi, 16, was found seriously injured in the area of 139 Avenue and 32 Street at 6:50 a.m. on Sunday. She died at the scene. An autopsy found Dhesi died of a gunshot wound and that the manner of death is homicide, Edmonton police said. “While an arrest has been made, this case highlights the devastating consequences of youth violence, and the importance of continued efforts by families, schools, community organizations and law enforcement to support young people and prevent violence before it occurs,” Staff Sgt. Rob Bilawey said in a news release. The accused cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Dhesi’s death.
