Southern Manitoba expected to be hit by late-season snow storm

Manitobans are not yet out of the woods when it comes to wintry weather as a late-season storm heads to the province.

As of Thursday morning, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has a special weather statement in place for much of southern Manitoba, including in Winnipeg and Brandon.

The weather agency notes the main concern is freezing rain along and south of the Trans-Canada Highway corridor through to southwestern Manitoba and the Red River Valley. It adds some uncertainty remains as to whether the freezing rain will be patchy or more organized in nature.

According to ECCC, western and central Manitoba will see mostly snow, with accumulations between four and eight centimetres expected. Some areas with higher terrain may see as much as 15 centimetres of snow.

The storm is expected to last from Thursday morning through Friday.

ECCC notes the special weather statement may be upgraded or expanded as the weather system develops.
