For soccer fans in London, getting to-and-from FIFA World Cup viewing parties this Saturday got a lot easier, and cheaper. London Mayor Josh Morgan has announced that riding London Transit will be free of charge all-day on July 4. The cost of the free citywide bus service is being covered by London Hydro, the City of London, and Tourism London. Team Canada will take on Morocco in a historic Round of 16 match starting at 1 p.m. Coincidently, Canada Celebrates the FIFA World Cup was already scheduled to hold an official event on Saturday in Victoria Park. Morgan is calling on Londoners to “pack the park”. “It couldn’t have aligned better because Saturday is FIFA Day in London, and Canada is playing Morocco so it’ll be a series of exciting events, followed by a public viewing of the game right in Victoria Park,” the mayor explains. “You can come down and join the rest of us cheering for Team Canada!” Morgan says. “It’s going to be an amazing experience here in Victoria Park, in the heart of our city.” The free transit is intended to ensure fans can safely and conveniently get to viewing parties, whether in Victoria Park, at local restaurants, bars, or backyards.
