Investigation leads to 4 arrests; discovery of nearly $200k worth of drugs

The Winnipeg Police Service has made four arrests and seized nearly $200,000 worth of drugs following an investigation into drug activity in the city last month.

The first arrest took place around 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 28 when police saw a male suspect driving from a building in the 300 block of Nassau Street in a 2023 Ford F150 Lariat.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and took a 38-year-old man into custody. Police then searched the car and found cocaine, marijuana, contraband cigarettes, drug paraphernalia, and about $320 in cash.

Police then searched a Nassau Street office building, where they found and arrested a 39-year-old man. Officers also seized a large quantity of drugs, including cocaine, fentanyl, marijuana, and psilocybin mushrooms, as well as a handgun, shotgun, and drug paraphernalia.

As part of the investigation, police executed another search warrant at a home in the 100 block of William Tweed Terrace, where they seized marijuana, contraband cigarettes, about $8,000 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

A 23-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, who were seen leaving the home just before the warrant was executed, were arrested.

In total, the searches led to the seizure of nearly $200,000 worth of drugs, including 17,563 grams of raw marijuana with an estimated street value of $95,000; 1,633 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $48,000; and 5,000 mg of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) with an estimated street value of $18,000. Police also seized five watches with an estimated value of $70,000 and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition.

The four suspects have been charged with drug-related offences. The charges have not been proven in court.

All four suspects were released on undertakings.
