Here are the people being recognized by the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame in 2026

A number of former NHL players are headlining the 2026 inductee class at the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame.

The list was unveiled Tuesday and features Arron Asham, Larry Brown, Bryce Salvador, Delaney Collins, Mike Leclerc and Ken Baumgartner in the player category.

In the builder category, Bob Caldwell is getting the nod.

Representing media is Patti Dawn Swansson, while Ryan Galloway is being recognized in the official category.

Arron Asham

From Portage la Prairie, Arron Asham spent 12 seasons in the NHL, playing in 789 games, tallying 94 goals, 114 assists and 1,004 penalty minutes.

He started his hockey career with the Portage Terriers of the MJHL in 1993 before joining the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL in 1994.

In 1996, he was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the third round, 71st overall.

He made his NHL debut in 1998 with the Habs, playing parts of four seasons with the team. He would go on to play for the New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers.

His best season came in 2002-2003 with the Islanders when he scored 15 goals and 34 points.

He also appeared in 72 playoff games over his career, scoring 11 goals and 19 points.

Since retiring from hockey, the Hall of Fame says Asham is still promoting hockey in Indigenous communities in Central Manitoba, “helping young players develop and succeed in the sport.”

Larry Brown

Larry Brown got to play for his hometown Brandon Wheat Kings for three seasons before making the jump to the NHL during the 1969-70 season.

The defenceman split time between the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings and Philadelphia Flyers before finding a home with the L.A. Kings, where he played for six seasons.

In total, he played in 455 games, tallying seven goals and 60 points.

He retired from the game following the 1979-80 season.

Bryce Salvador

Another Brandon hockey player on the list, Bryce Salvador played more than 780 games in the NHL.

He played his junior career with the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the WHL and was taken in the sixth round of the 1994 NHL Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

However, he never played in Tampa, eventually signing with the St. Louis Blues in 1996.

The defenceman made his NHL debut in the 2000-01 season, playing in 75 games.

After parts of seven seasons with the Blues, Salvador was traded to the New Jersey Devils. He was eventually named captain of the Devils, becoming the 10th captain in team history and the third Black captain in NHL history.

He announced his retirement in 2015, after playing in 786 games, scoring 24 goals and 110 points. He also suited up for 74 playoff games, where he gathered another 18 points.

Following his career, he has remained with the Devils, now as a studio analyst and reporter for home games. He has also been working the Stanley Cup Playoffs for TNT since 2022.

Delaney Collins

Pilot Mound’s Delaney Collins represented Canada for 11 years as part of her hockey journey.

She played at Notre Dame College before joining the Concordia Stingers of the CIAU, where she won a championship with the team in 1998.

Between 2003 and 2005, she played with the University of Alberta, helping them win a championship in 2004. She was named an All-Canada West and CIS First-Team All-Canadian. She was also named to the CIS National Championship All-Star Team in 2005.

On the international stage, she won three gold medals and two silvers with Team Canada and was named the Manitoba Female Athlete of the Year in 2007.

She retired in 2011 and is currently the head coach of the Hungarian National Women’s team.

Mike Leclerc

Winnipeg’s Mike Leclerc grew up playing minor hockey in Transcona and St. Boniface, playing with the St. Boniface Saints in the 1991-92 season.

He would go to the WHL, playing with the Victoria Cougars and Brandon Wheat Kings. He would lead the Wheat Kings in scoring in 1995-96, helping the team claim the Memorial Cup.

He was taken in the third round, 55th overall, in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

He made his NHL debut in the 1996-97 season and had his best year with the Ducks in 2001-02, scoring 20 goals and 44 points in 82 games.

He retired in 2006 after splitting the season between the Phoenix Coyotes and Calgary Flames.

Ken Baumgartner

Flin Flon’s Ken Baumgartner made his name in the NHL by taking trips to the penalty box.

His junior career was split between the Prince Albert Raiders and Swift Current Broncos. He helped capture the Memorial Cup with the Raiders in 1985.

His NHL career started in 1987-88 with the L.A. Kings. He also spent time with the New York Islanders, Toronto Maple Leafs, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, and Boston Bruins.

He only tallied 13 goals over 696 games, but his claim to fame was how much time he spent in the penalty box, amassing a total of 2,242 minutes.

Outside of hockey, he earned a business and finance degree and would later finish his MBA at Harvard. He also served as the NHLPA vice president.

Bob Caldwell

From Deloraine, Bob Caldwell helped coach hockey at almost every level and age group, including as an assistant coach with Western Michigan University.

He helped create the National Coach Mentorship Program for Hockey Canada and was a master coach mentor for Hockey Manitoba.

Along with helping support coaches across Canada, Caldwell coached Poland’s U-18 team and mentored coaches in Romania and Russia. He was also a skills instructor for the IIHF.

In his hometown, he started the Deloraine Breakfast Club in 2004, which helped combine skills development with a welcoming environment for kids of all ages.

He served as the chair of Sport Manitoba’s Advisory Board and was named Hockey Manitoba’s Volunteer of the Year in 2012.

“Caldwell’s career is defined by long-term commitment to strengthening hockey at both the grassroots and national levels,” the Hall of Fame said.

Patti Dawn Swansson

Patti Dawn Swansson covered everything hockey for more than three decades during her media career.

She started with the Winnipeg Tribune in 1969, quickly becoming a sportswriter covering the Winnipeg Jets.

She stayed in the province until 1980 after the Tribune closed, when her career took her to Calgary and Toronto, covering both the Flames and Maple Leafs, as well as international tournaments.

She came back to Manitoba in 1986 with the Winnipeg Sun, staying there until 1999 as the leading sports columnist, Jets beat writer, and sports editor.

“A unique figure in hockey journalism, she is the only living writer to have covered both the Winnipeg Jets’ final WHA game and their first NHL game, as well as their Avco Cup championship years.”

Ryan Galloway

The only official on the list is Ryan Galloway. The Winnipegger officiated for 22 seasons in the NHL, covering 1,409 games as a linesman.

He started officiating at 12 years old and worked his way through the ranks in the IHL and AHL before getting the call to the NHL in 2002.

He got to be on the ice for 23 playoff games, the 2022 Global Series, and four outdoor games, including the 2016 Heritage Classic in Winnipeg. He was also one of three Winnipeggers to officiate the Winnipeg Jets’ first game back in Winnipeg on Oct. 9, 2011.

Now retired, Galloway serves as an officiating coach of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.

Also being inducted in the 2026 class are Dan Bouchard and Ivan Strain, who are being recognized in the Grassroots category.

Percy Galbraith is being inducted into the Veterans category.

There are two teams being honoured as well: the CPAC Women’s Hockey Club and the 1968/69 Flin Flon Bombers.
