Extras, crew needed for Winnipeg-shot curling comedy series

An upcoming comedy series about four Black-Canadian friends who vie for glory in a curling bonspiel is in need of extras.

“Cool Sweepings” is billed as a hilarious, heart-filled drama about an unlikely curling team hurrying hard to catch their dreams and some cash on the ice.

The series has been 18 years in the making for Chris Sharpe, series producer and creator.

He curled in high school but noticed the Manitoba cultural staple lacked diversity.

“I always thought it’d be really cool just to add some Caribbean flavour to it, kind of inspired by the Jamaican curling bobsled team in “Cool Runnings.”

Now, his curling comedy will begin shooting in Winnipeg next month, before airing on Bell Fibe TV, owned by CTV News’ parent company.

Primary casting is already done, but volunteers are needed for extra and crew work.

“We’re just looking for people who are enthusiastic and want to be part of history with Canada’s first-ever Black curling comedy.”

Once those positions are filled, Sharpe is still in need of one more major component to bring his vision to the screen.

“It’s actually been less and less snow every year, so we’re hoping that we get snow soon.”
