Manitoba weather: What to expect for spring break week

Sunshine has returned to southern Manitoba on Friday. As for springtime temperatures – not just yet.

Fear not, though—a warm-up is on the way just in time for spring break.

After a brief dusting of light snow across the south overnight, high pressure building over Manitoba on Friday will keep the sky relatively clear and temperatures quite cold for late March in Manitoba.

For perspective, Winnipeg is forecast to reach just -6 C Friday afternoon, 10 degrees below the normal high of 4 C for this time of year.

There are usually outliers, though. Melita, so often the hot spot in Manitoba, will likely claim that title on Friday with a forecast high of 0 C. That’s still four degrees below the region’s seasonal norm, but milder than the rest of the province.

In northwestern Ontario, there is a chance of a few flurries as the disturbance that brought snow to Winnipeg overnight is now moving off to the east.

Northern Manitoba will see sunshine or a mix of sun and cloud on Friday. There is also a low chance of a few scattered flurries over the region.

Daytime highs on Friday will be coldest in areas furthest north, only rising to the mid minus teens.

Ahead on Friday night, winds will shift and come from the south overnight in Winnipeg, tapping into milder air. Temperatures will rise to around 2 C or 3 C on Saturday and Sunday in the sunshine.

Sunshine will give way to snow on Monday before cloudy skies and cooler temperatures return on Tuesday.

A mix of sun and cloud will return on Wednesday, with more of the same on Thursday when seasonal temperatures will return.
