Manitoba weather: Weak clipper brings showers, snow to province

From sunshine Wednesday to showers and snow Thursday, what a difference a day – and a low pressure system – can make.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says a weak clipper is bringing mixed precipitation to the eastern Prairies on Thursday.

The weather agency adds most of the precipitation will fall as rain, but snow could mix in with it over the higher terrain of the Manitoba escarpment and Riding Mountain National Park across western Manitoba.

Showers are possible across the rest of southern Manitoba on Thursday afternoon. They are most likely in the southwest and east of Winnipeg but are also possible in Brandon or Winnipeg.

Showers or flurries are possible across the south overnight, more so in the southwest.

In the northwest, The Pas and Flin Flon are likely to see showers Thursday afternoon, while rain showers or flurries are most likely in the northeast in Churchill, along with strong and gusting north winds.

Further east, northwestern Ontario will see a mix of sun and cloud, although there’s a low chance of showers around the region Thursday afternoon.

Friday is not only the last day of October - it is also Halloween, of course.

Spooktacular clouds will blanket much of the south. There is a good chance ghosts and goblins in Brandon could be trick-or-treating in showers or flurries. The chance is lower in Winnipeg but can’t be entirely ruled out.

One thing is certain – a warm costume is the way to go. Temperatures in Brandon are expected to drop to the freezing mark on Friday afternoon, while the forecast high for Winnipeg is 5 C, before cooling off quickly by early evening.
