Colleen Bready’s Forecast: Seasonal temperatures in southern Manitoba

After a cool start to the week on Monday, milder, more seasonal temperatures have returned to southern Manitoba on Tuesday.

A weak disturbance moving out of Saskatchewan will likely dust southwestern Manitoba with a few flurries this afternoon.

There is the outside chance flurries will reach Winnipeg and the southeast, either late this afternoon or early evening. Otherwise, the region will enjoy a mix of sun and cloud.

High pressure over northwestern Ontario will keep the sun shining over the region, before clouds start to build late in the day in some areas. Daytime highs on Tuesday will remain just below the freezing mark.

Meanwhile, bitter cold persists in far northern Manitoba on Tuesday, where a cold warning issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada continues for the Brochet and Tadoule Lake regions.

At their most extreme, wind chill values between -45 and -50 are expected. The weather agency said cold warnings could remain in effect into Wednesday in some areas.

The rest of the week will be a few degrees colder than normal for mid-March in Winnipeg, with the exception of a brief warmup on Thursday with a high expected just below the freezing mark. The normal high for this time of year is -3 C.

Temperatures will remain several degrees below normal throughout the weekend, particularly overnight lows forecast to drop into the low -20s, close to 10 degrees below normal.
