Manitoba weather: How much snow are we getting?

It is a snowy St. Patrick’s Day on Tuesday in Winnipeg and across much of Manitoba and northwestern Ontario.

Snow arrived this morning along a warm front accompanied by strong and gusty south winds. That could cause blowing snow across southern and northwestern regions, which could reduce visibility.

Forecast snowfall amounts vary, with the most expected in the southwest, including Dauphin and Brandon, where five to 10 centimetres is possible Tuesday.

The southeast, including Winnipeg, and the northwest and central regions could see up to five centimetres.

Although temperatures are still unseasonably cold in the south on Tuesday, the warm front—and perhaps the luck of the Irish—will bring relief by Wednesday.

In fact, temperatures will rise overnight and then climb up above the freezing mark on Wednesday, slightly above normal for this time of year.

There is the chance a band of snow or freezing rain will quickly cross the south on Wednesday.

Seasonal temperatures will continue until the end of the week in Winnipeg, ahead of a slight dip below the freezing mark on the weekend in the sunshine.
