Bonivital Pool reopens after nearly $10M of renovations

A St. Boniface pool has reopened following nearly $10M in renovations.

A new and improved Bonivital Pool has officially opened to the public after a closure for renovations that lasted more than a year and a half.

The pool on Archibald Street reopened Monday, though city officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday to celebrate.

“This is part of our long-term plan to renew Winnipeg’s aging pool infrastructure so families can continue relying on modern, accessible facilities for decades to come,” Mayor Scott Gillingham said in a news release on the event.

The pool, built in 1975, was closed in May 2024 due to aging infrastructure.

Over the year-and-a-half closure, about $9.88 million was spent on the project. The city noted $4.5 million came from the province.

The renovations include a new sauna—which is expected to open soon—along with a multi-purpose room incorporated in the open pool deck area. Upgrades were completed to several of the pool’s mechanical systems, including heating and ventilation, air conditioning, water heating, lighting and fire alarm systems.

The city said the new Bonivital Pool also includes accessibility upgrades in the front lobby, including new universal and gendered change rooms.

Bonivital is one of several city pools that have received or are going through major renovations.

The St. James Civic Centre Pool remains closed as it undergoes a large expansion project. It is expected to wrap up by Nov. 1, 2026.

Seven Oaks Pool is scheduled to close next month (Dec. 14) for at least a year. The project includes concrete and structural repairs, waterproofing and tile replacement in the main pool tank and part of the pool deck.
