Winnipeg police have released their final figures for its Holiday Checkstop program, and there are more than a few Winnipeggers wishing they’d been less festive. According to a news release, during the 2025 iteration of the program, Winnipeg police stopped 2,785 vehicles. Of those drivers, 102 were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol or cannabis. Police said 15 people were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, while 77 immediate roadside prohibitions were also issued. Nine drivers failed drug screening tests for cannabis, and 146 traffic offence tickets were issued. The highest blood alcohol content recorded was more than three times the statutory limit, according to police. One impaired driver was also involved in a multi-vehicle collision, but no injuries were recorded. Police said the drivers committing offences ranged from 22 to 53 years old.
