There will be more Winnipeg police officers patrolling through bars in the city as the service is working to target gang members who pose a risk to public safety. Winnipeg police announced Tuesday officers will start to do walk-throughs of establishments in the city over the next number of months to remove people who might cause violence. “Removal efforts will strategically target gang members and individuals involved in or associated with organized crime, with priority given to those who pose the greatest risk to public safety,” police said in a news release. Under the province’s liquor regulations, businesses are allowed to prevent or remove people from being there and police say if individuals refuse to leave, they can face a fine or even be arrested. Police plan to work with establishments to help them “understand the requirements and support consistent, fair enforcement.” “Together, these efforts are intended to reduce gang activity, help prevent violence, and maintain a safe environment for patrons and staff.”
