The CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery kicked off on Tuesday, with the grand prize a 5,340 sq. ft. home in Kanata. The CHEO Foundation unveiled the Minto Dream Home for CHEO, launching the annual lottery to support patient care at Ottawa’s children’s hospital. The grand prize features over $3.6 million in prizes, including the Minto Dream Home on Vibert Douglas Drive in Kanata, $100,000 cash, a 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300, $5,000 gift card from W.O. Stinson & Son Ltd., ATC Cleaning for one year, and a $5,000 gift card to Farm Boy. Minto says the Dream Home for CHEO is called the Beaumont, with four bedrooms, a double-height solarium, elevator access to all three floors and a two-car garage. The “first true showstopper” in the home is the sculptural curved staircase on the main floor, according to Minto. There is a dining room, a Great Room anchored by a dramatic fireplace mantle and windows that flow into the solarium, a den, mudroom, and patio doors leading to a rear deck. “The Kitchen is a true showpiece. A refined, oversized central island and honed quartzite slab backsplash takes centre stage, surrounded by deep-stained oak cabinetry, and an arched stove niche that frames the Thermador range,” Minto said. “On the perimeter of the kitchen, a large window over the sink faces the rear ravine and multi-drop glass pendants complete the elegant look. Just behind, a fully equipped Spice Kitchen offers a second range, prep sink, and abundant storage, perfect for entertaining or daily family cooking.” The primary bedroom on the second floor features a private balcony, a spa-inspired primary ensuite, a dry bar and walk-thru closet with direct access to the laundry," Minto says. The basement features a solarium with direct access to the backyard, a family room with a long linear fireplace, a wine tasting cellar, a fitness centre and a three-piece bedroom. Other prizes in the CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery includes Dream Cars, $100,000 cash, and dream vacations. The Early Bird Prize is $250,000 cash. “Alongside a stunning, custom-built Minto Dream Home, we’re giving away over $5.3 million in prizes, our biggest year yet,” the CHEO Foundation said. “Thousands of ticket buyers will celebrate as we give away cars, vacations, gift cards, bonus tickets, and cash.” In Pictures The home’s designer says this year, the team behind the dream home leaned on European inspired elements. “We were looking at a Parisian apartment, and we really wanted to kind of bring that timeless elegance feel that you would have in an apartment but also interpreted through a modern lens,” said Tanner Vine of Tanner Vine Interiors. “We mixed these classic architectural details with contemporary furniture, modern cabinetry and lighting, and this has really created a space that feels sophisticated, warm, and very livable.” Vine adds that the primary bedroom combined with the ensuite washroom seems to be generating the most buzz in the home. “I really hope that people come out and tour the home and see it in person,” said Vine. “As much as you can see it in photos, I think the elegance you really need to experience in person.” Although everyone purchasing a ticket will be looking to win the $3.6 million grand prize, this year features the greatest monetary value in possible prizes, so there are plenty of chances to win. “We have $5.3 million worth in prizes in the campaign so the beautiful dream home package is of course the big one, but we’ve got some travel packages, vacations to Spain and Japan and Costa Rica, we’ve got Sens tickets, we’ve got different gift cards, so, lots of different ways people can win. Over 9,000 prizes in total,” said Steve Read, President & CEO of the CHEO Foundation. “The word that we do at CHEO needs the support of the community and this is a big way that we’re able to put the right resources in the hands of the clinicians that do so much good for the kids.” Read says the CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery is the foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year. “For us and the work that we’re doing and the commitments we’ve made to CHEO to help them grow and expand to meet the increasing demand that they are facing, this is a big way that we’re able to do that. So, we count very heavily on the community’s support.” Tickets cost $100 for one ticket, while 3 Dream of a Lifetime Lottery tickets and 15 tickets for the 50/50 draw cost $300. The deadline to purchase a ticket in the CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery is Friday, Dec. 18. The draw is Jan. 6.
