Legacy Co-op marked Fuel Good Day in Yorkton today, part of a Western Canada-wide initiative that directs fuel sale proceeds to local community groups. Four organizations in the wider Yorkton area were selected for this year’s support: Paws & Claws Animal Rescue, the Churchbridge Curling Club, the Theodore Heritage Centre, and Parkland Victim Services. Ten cents from every litre of fuel sold at Legacy Co-op gas stations in Yorkton, Kamsack, Churchbridge and Theodore were allocated to the four organizations. BBQ fundraisers were also held at each location. The 10th anniversary is likely to hit a round number for contributions. “The total we have raised is just under $80,000 over these last nine Fuel Good Days,” said Brady Lang, Legacy Co-op’s marketing coordinator. “With today’s contributions, we’ll likely be over $80,000.” As part of the anniversary, Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive backs Marcus Sayles and Rolan Milligan made an appearance at the Palliser Way C Store in Yorkton, drawing a small crowd of fans during lunch hours. Legacy Co-op representatives hope the visibility of today’s event encourages other community organizations to come forward for future support opportunities. “I think [it’s] really important because we want more and more groups to be involved,” Richard Burym, petroleum operations manager at Legacy Co-op told CTV News.
