Worker dies after falling through skylight at Ventra Plastics

The Ontario Ministry of Labour has issued two orders to Vollmer Incorporated after the death of an employee in Windsor.

A man who was rushed to hospital after an industrial accident at Ventra Plastics succumbed to his injuries.

Police say the man fell through a skylight at the facility on Kew Drive on Thursday.

One of the two requirement orders is for documentation and the other is do not disturb the scene at Ventra, where flags are flying at half staff.

CTV News has learned the identity of the man is Rob Morneau. He was an electrician with Vollmer and is survived by his wife and two children.

Karl Lovett, the Business Manager with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local 773, says Morneau was an excellent worker.

Lovett adds Morneau was a "tremendous person, always had a smile on his face.”

A tweet sent out Thursday night from OPSEU local 135 said “thoughts and prayers to our brothers and sisters from our local @IBEW who lost a member in a tragic on the job accident today"

Morneau was heavily involved in both the Riverside Minor Hockey and Baseball Association.

The Riverside Minor Hockey Association posted its condolences online Friday. It said “The family of RMHA send our condolences to the family of Ranger dad Rob Morneau who passed away November 3rd. There are no words to express our sadness at this time but we hope that our collective thoughts and prayers may bring you some comfort. God bless Rob and may this new hockey angel in heaven watch over you all.”

The union is also looking into setting up a trust fund for Morneau’s children.

The investigation continues into the circumstances around his death.
