Windsor’s first green bin collection

Windsor saw its first green bin collection take place on Tuesday.

Windsor’s green bins were collected for the first time on Tuesday.

The new weekly service allows residents to compost food scraps, food-soiled paper products and other compostables in the green bin.

Windsor city officials said it’s a major step towards diverting waste from the landfill and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

While some are welcoming the new system, others feel it’s more cumbersome, especially older people or who use smaller bins.

“For somebody 92 years old, it’s causing a lot of disruption in my events. I try, I put my green bin out and I am using it, but it isn’t easy,” a resident told CTV News.

“If I didn’t have a wonderful neighbour, I don’t think I’d be able to do it. So, you might be depending on your neighbours, some people.”
