Three community art installations put in at Port Elgin and Southampton

Three new community art installations were celebrated by the Town of Saugeen Shores this week.

The pieces were installed in Port Elgin and Southampton and the town said they reflect the strong commitment to placemaking, cultural development, and downtown enhancement.

The installations include:

Great Blue Heron: Hand-painted mural, found in the alley of Rosina Restaurant in Port Elgin. It was created by Port Elgin’s Emilie Darlington, capturing the spirit of Saugeen Shores’ natural beauty.

Pollinator Paradise: This is a digital mural, also created by Emilie Darlington. It’s found in the alley of 613 Goderich Street in Port Elgin, celebrating vital pollinators in the ecosystem.

The Land That Raised Us: This mural can be found on the Bell utility building in Southampton. It was created by Emily Kewageshig and Taylor Cameron, honouring the ancestral territory of the Saugeen Ojibwe. It invites reflection on connections and shared responsibility to care for the land.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing more public art to both Port Elgin and Southampton,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau.

“These murals reflect a collaborative effort to tell our stories, honour our land, and create memorable experiences for residents and visitors alike.”
