St. Anne Catholic High School brings home gold in national music competition

St. Anne Catholic High School in Belle River has brought home the gold medal after The Nationals of MusicFest Canada competition.

The event took place at York University in Toronto. The jazz combo consisting of Julien Lewis, Andrew Matchett, Matthew Verzosa, Luis Correa, Aiden Williams, and Michael Bourdeau, received the award for their performances of “So What” by Miles Davis, “Georgia On My Mind” by Hoagy Carmichael, and “Tenor Madness” by Sonny Rollins.

The group got together, picked the pieces they would perform, and rehearsed everything on their own. Grant Bergeron, the group’s music teacher, offered “just a little bit” of guidance and feedback.
