A Hamilton man in jail in Windsor will have to wait another month to be sentenced for drug trafficking. Harpreet Singh pleaded guilty last January to drug possession charges. He was caught in August 2022 with 28 bricks, or 30 kilograms, of cocaine hidden in a duffel inside his transport truck. In superior court this week, his new lawyer asked for an adjournment, so he had time to speak with his client before proceeding with sentencing submissions. The federal drug prosecutor opposed the delay, arguing Canadians are also entitled to timely sentencing under the criminal code and the deadline for that expired five months ago. Justice Horvat, however, granted the delay and will now hear sentencing arguments at the end of August.
