A man and woman in their 70s, who were believed to be married, are dead following a shooting outside of a hospital in Scarborough on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred in a parking lot outside Providence Healthcare, near Warden and St. Clair avenues, at about 12:30 p.m. Police said two people were found at the scene suffering from gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead a short time later. Speaking to reporters outside the scene, Toronto police Duty Senior Officer Scott Shutt said life-saving measures were performed on both victims. “It’s a very traumatic incident for the family members involved,” he said. He also encouraged anyone who was at or near the hospital at the time of the shooting to reach out for support, noting that “numerous people would have been aware of it happening after the fact.” Shutt said there has been no arrests and there are no outstanding suspects in the shootings. Toronto police’s homicide unit is investigating. ‘Our hospital campus is safe and secure’: Unity Health Toronto In a statement, Providence Healthcare, confirmed that Toronto police are investigating an incident that occurred in its parking lot earlier today. “We want to assure all patients and visitors that that our hospital campus is safe and secure,” Unity Health Toronto, which operates the hospital and long-term care facility, wrote. “We continue to operate as usual and appointments booked for tomorrow will continue as scheduled.”
