Guy Turcotte, convicted of second-degree murder for stabbing his two children to death, is scheduled to appear before the Parole Board of Canada on Tuesday. Turcotte is expected to request temporary escorted leave from prison. In December 2015, the former cardiologist was found guilty of stabbing his five-year-old son, Olivier, and his three-year-old daughter, Anne-Sophie, dozens of times in 2009. The man, now 54, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for at least 17 years. Turcotte had initially been found not criminally responsible for the murders in 2011, but the verdict was overturned on appeal. A spokesperson for the Parole Board noted that decisions regarding escorted temporary absences are not made public, but may be communicated verbally at the end of the hearing.
