HMCS Margaret Brooke coming to Dieppe Gardens this weekend

A Canadian warship is docked in Windsor, allowing the community to take a look inside.

His Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Margaret Brooke, one of the newest in the Canadian Navy fleet, will be docked at Dieppe Gardens in Windsor. It will stay there from Friday until Monday.

The ship is visiting to participate in various marine career fairs along Lake Ontario, Lake Superior, and Lake Huron.

“It is great honour for the crew of HMCS Margaret Brooke to be showcased during Marine Careers Expo in Windsor,” said Commander Teri Share, commanding officer of the ship.

“Each and every one of us have joined the Royal Canadian Navy to pursue a challenging and rewarding career at sea in service to Canada. We look forward to sharing our experiences and ship with our fellow Canadians.”

The Navy said it is addressing a ‘significant recruitment challenge’, looking to reach out to people in places where they typically wouldn’t get to see a Canadian war ship.

A welcoming ceremony will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. Public tours will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“On behalf of City Council and the City of Windsor, we are honoured to welcome Commander Teri Share and the crew of HMCS Margaret Brooke during their visit to our community,” said Mayor Drew Dilkens.

“We thank the officers for providing training and development for citizen-sailors, and for looking after Canadian waters in the Arctic and beyond. We look forward to Windsorites having an opportunity to tour this grand ship during its visit to our region.”
