It’s not every day you see a blimp flying in the sky in Detroit and Windsor. The Goodyear blimp is drifting around Thursday as part of an automotive conference in Detroit. It’s for the 100th anniversary of Automotive News, hosting the Automotive News Congress. This year also marks the 100th anniversary of the Goodyear blimp program. It appears to be mainly sailing in the downtown Detroit area, which makes it very visible on the Canadian side of the border as well. According to the Goodyear website, the first Goodyear blimp journey into aviation began in 1910 with the creation of its Aeronautics Department, leading to the first balloon in 1912. In 2011, Goodyear introduced the NT (New Technology) model, marking a shift to semi-rigid airships.
