Enbridge to remain in Chatham despite purchasing large building in London: Mayor Canniff

Enbridge has bought the former Costco building in London, but the company is expected to remain in Chatham.

Enbridge is expected to remain in Chatham despite purchasing a large building in London, according to Chatham’s mayor.

The natural gas company announced this week they have purchased the old Costco building on Wellington Road, just south of Highway 401 in London.

“Over the next two to three years, we will focus on planning, architectural upgrades and renovations to establish this location as the permanent home for our London-area employees,” Enbridge said in a statement to CTV News London.

CTV News Windsor has asked the company if the purchase will change their footprint in Chatham. A response has not yet been received.

Meantime, Chatham Mayor Darrin Canniff told CTV News Friday in a statement the company will “continue to be a strong partner and employer.”

“There may be changes, but in speaking with the CEO, he has assured me they will remain present in our community in a significant way,” Canniff wrote. “Enbridge has been in our community for over 100 years, and I will keep working to make sure that legacy continues here for years to come.”

Last fall, Canniff admitted there were “rumours” around town about the company’s future plan for Chatham.

He said the CEO has reassured him – as recently as October 2025 - they will remain in the community.
