Driver charged after serious crash on Highway 401

A 22-year-old driver has been charged after a three-vehicle crash on Highway 401 in Tecumseh.

Emergency services including members of the Essex County OPP, Essex-Windsor Emergency Medical Services, Tecumseh Fire and Rescue Services, responded to the crash at 10:43 a.m. on Friday, July 4.

One driver was transported to hospital in an ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, one driver was transported to hospital with via ambulance with serious injuries and the other driver was uninjured.

Ornge Air Ambulance attended but was not used for transport.

Highway 401 is re-opened later Friday.

As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old of Brampton resident was charged with the following Criminal Code offence:

• Dangerous Operation causing bodily harm.

The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Windsor on Aug. 26, 2025, to answer to the charge.
