Downtown Windsor praised by outside politicians

CTV Windsor: Downtown potential What did the visiting AMO politicians think of downtown Windsor? Angelo Aversa finds out.

Many of the nearly 2,000 politicians and staff who attended the three-day AMO Conference in Windsor spoke highly of the city and the changes in the downtown core.

The mayor of St. Charles, Paul Schoppmann, says Windsor’s riverfront is “something that everybody should see. I've never seen such a long riverfront, so well-groomed and landscaped, it is phenomenal.”

Jim Collard is a town councillor from Niagara-on-the-Lake. He says he “loves Windsor.”

Collard says both of his children studied at the University of Windsor and their experience was nothing but positive.

Aurora mayor Geoffrey Dawe feels Windsor can continue to change its image.

Dawe says Windsor can move from away from manufacturing jobs into the high tech sector while creating more work in cultural services and parks and recreation.

London city councillor Josh Morgan notes Windsor has a rich history, and he has learned new things about the city through a tour with mayor Drew Dilkens.

Windsor’s mayor and the rest of city council hope to continue to re-invent the downtown core.

Council recently waived development fees downtown, with the hope of attracting new business to the area.

The AMO conference is expected to have generated close to $8-million in revenue for the Windsor-Essex economy.
