Chimczuk Museum to celebrate 10th anniversary on Feb. 21

The Chimczuk Museum is getting ready to celebrate its 10th anniversary and you’re invited to join in the fun.

From family friendly activities to guided tours, historical artifacts and special guest appearances, there is something for everyone.

Here’s a list of the fun activities attendees can expect.

Free admission and birthday cookies

• Free admission to the Chimczuk Museum and Art Windsor-Essex

Guided tour: 11:00 a.m.

• Museum Windsor Coordinator Matthew Pritchard will take guests on a special guided tour of the permanent exhibition The River and the Land Sustain Us.

Special talk, CBC: memories of 50 years of coverage: 1:00 p.m.

• Moderated by former CBC host Barbara Peacock, special guests will include municipal affairs reporter Percy Hatfield, Windsor Morning host Tony Doucette, and video journalist Chris Ensing. Attendees can learn about CBC’s local coverage over the last years 50 years.

Drumming and storytelling with Teajai Travis: 2:00 p.m.

• Local artist and community storyteller Teajai Travis will get visitors moving with drumming and storytelling.

Magic Tricks and Balloon Animals: 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.

• Magician Elizabeth Prosser will teach magic tricks and create balloon animals for visitors.

Featured artifact, No. 2 Construction Battalion cap badge: all day

• This recently acquired cap badge will be on public display for the first time. The No. 2 Construction Battalion was Canada’s first and only all-Black battalion in the First World War.

Family friendly activities: all day

• Visitors can enjoy birthday-themed crafts in the children’s gallery, a special scavenger hunt, and a children’s colouring contest

10^th anniversary photo slideshow: all day

• Check out a video slideshow created by Museum Windsor staff highlighting photographs from the Chimczuk Museum over last 10 years. Images include current and former staff, special events, exhibitions, museum volunteer group meetings, and never-seen photos of the construction of the Chimczuk Museum space.

The event will kick off on Feb. 21. The Chimczuk Museum is located at 401 Riverside Dr. W.
