19-year-old facing weapon charge after allegedly running towards officer with knife

A 19-year-old man is facing a weapon charge after allegedly running towards a police officer with a knife.

On Saturday around 9:15 p.m., the Chatham-Kent Police Service was patrolling downtown and saw a group of people allegedly causing a disturbance on King Street West in Chatham.

Police said this was after an earlier disturbance involving the same group of people. According to officers, one person was seen running into the roadway and jumping fences during their interaction. Later, they had a knife and allegedly ran towards an officer before getting rid of the weapon.

The 19-year-old Chatham man has been arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
