Suspect at large after targeted assault that caused ‘life-threatening’ injuries on Vancouver Island

Police in Langford are investigating after a serious assault sent a man to hospital with “life-threatening injuries” Thursday afternoon.

Officers were called to Goldstream Park, near the 1100 block of Finlayson Arm Road, around 4:15 p.m. for “reports of an adult male who had been seriously assaulted,” West Shore RCMP said in a news release Friday.

The man was taken to hospital and the detachment’s serious crimes unit took over the investigation, according to police.

“No arrests have been made at this time,” the release reads. “Investigators believe this was a targeted incident and that there is no additional information suggesting any ongoing risk to the public.”

A canine team and forensic investigators also responded to the scene, police said, adding that the investigation is ongoing and “no further details can be released.”

“Investigators are working diligently on this investigation and would like to thank witnesses who stopped and provided first aid on scene,” said Cpl. Meghan Groulx, in the release.

Anyone with dash cam video from the Trans Canada Highway at Goldstream Park or on Finlayson Arm Road recorded between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday should call investigators at 250-474-2264, Mounties said.
