Woman stabbed to death in Vancouver’s Gastown neighbourhood, police say

Vancouver police say a 40-year-old woman died from stab wounds after being found injured early Sunday morning. A man arrested but has not been charged.

Police are investigating a stabbing in Vancouver’s Gastown neighbourhood that left a woman dead over the weekend.

The Vancouver Police Department said officers responded to a 911 call early Sunday morning reporting a stabbing near Carrall and Water streets.

The victim was given emergency care at the scene, but later died in hospital.

She has since been identified as Ivy Michelle Bell, a 40-year-old Surrey resident.

Officers arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the stabbing, but he has since been released “pending completion of the investigation,” police said in a news release Monday.

“Police believe the victim and suspect knew each other,” the release added.
