As spring flooding eases in northern Ontario, forest fires are causing road closures in some parts of northwestern Ontario. “We are actively responding to several new wildland fires that have been confirmed today in the northwest region under high to extreme fire hazard conditions,” Ontario Forest Fires said on social media May 15. “Travel may be impacted by fires near roadways. Please stay clear of areas where crews and aircraft are working.” Highway 617 was closed Friday because of a wildland fire. The affected areas are in the Dryden and Kenora areas, closer to the Manitoba border. The up-to-date fire map can be found here.
