Weapons and drugs seized at ‘problem property’ in West Kelowna, RCMP say

Repeated complaints from neighbours about a “problem property” in West Kelowna led to a months-long investigation that culminated in the seizure of weapons and drugs last week, according to the RCMP.

Officers seized more than 200 grams of suspected illicit drugs along with drug trafficking equipment, weapons and ammunition while executing a search warrant at the Applegreen Court home on Feb. 4, the West Kelowna RCMP said in a news release Monday.

Eight people were also detained at the scene, and one man was arrested on unrelated charges.

In a news release, the RCMP credited the crackdown in part on members of the public who “took ownership of the problem” by making “consistent reports to police.”

“This investigation is a clear example of our officers listening to the community and taking decisive action where criminal activity is impacting neighbourhood safety,” Cpl. Bryan Mulrooney said in a statement.

“We take residents concerns seriously and take enforcement action when warranted. Removing drugs, weapons, and trafficking activity from this property makes a meaningful difference for the people who live nearby.”

So far, no charges have been announced in connection with the investigation.

The City of West Kelowna’s bylaw department and the West Kelowna Fire Department are “actively engaged in follow-up actions related to the future status of the property,” the RCMP said.
