Video shows alleged impaired driver knocking down lamppost in B.C.’s Fraser Valley

A man has been arrested after crashing into an Abbotsford lamppost—while allegedly impaired by drugs.

A man who allegedly drove into a lamppost in B.C.’s Fraser Valley last week has been arrested for drug-impaired driving three times since January, according to police.

The latest incident was captured on surveillance video, which shows the lamppost crashing to the ground outside a gas station in Abbotsford.

The Abbotsford Police Department said the collision happened around 2 p.m. Friday near Clearbrook Road and Oak Avenue, and that the 41-year-old driver once again appeared to be impaired.

While no one was hurt, Sgt. Paul Walker called the crash “particularly concerning” given the suspect’s recent history with law enforcement.

“At the time of Friday’s collision, the driver was prohibited from driving,” Walker told CTV News in an email.

“Charges in this latest incident are expected to include impaired driving, driving while prohibited, and breach of conditions.”

Abbotsford police officers have removed 231 impaired drivers from the roadways so far this year, including three others who were nabbed on Friday, according to the department.
