Elections Alberta (EA) said Saturday that more than 700,000 people have cast advance ballots in the upcoming provincial referendum. EA said they had 19 locations stay open late Friday to accommodate long lineups. They also kept the Athabasca location open until 10 p.m. to account for a short-term power outage on Wednesday that reduced the number of hours people could vote on that day. The provincial agency released data Saturday showing that the unofficial number of Albertans who cast ballots Friday was 174,320. That number was roughly in line with the first three days of advance voting which saw 174, 532 votes cast Tuesday, 186,742 Wednesday and 168,230 on Thursday. The four-day advance voting total, with one more day to go, was 703,824. Elections Alberta says it has also received 516,000 special mail-in ballots. Polls open at 8 a.m. Monday and close at 9 p.m. Elections Alberta advises people to come early in the day if they have any flexibility.
