The Edmonton Fan Expo wrapped up Sunday with an appearance by pro-wrestler and actor John Cena. “We pride ourselves on being a multi-genre event, so whether it’s sci-fi, gaming, horror, anime, comics, or perhaps wrestling, there’s all different fandoms that we can tap into,” said Fan Expo HQ vice-president Andrew Moyes. “I think John Cena is a real crossover. Not only does he have a huge wrestling fandom, but also he’s a massive movie star. So it’s great to be able to present all of our fans different heroes.” Moyes said about 40,000 people attended the three-day event filled with all things cosplay, comic books, anime and gaming. “We’ve had an incredible weekend,” Moyes told CTV News Edmonton. “We’ve had such an amazing lineup, and I think it’s shown that the community has come out to be part of such a great celebration.” Despite several celebrity guest speakers having to cancel, Moyes said the event was well-attended and a success. “When we’re working with actors, there are always going to be barriers with schedules, and there are different nuances to every area that we do these events,” Moyes told CTV News Edmonton. “The great thing is it hasn’t impacted the weekend … and it hasn’t at all diminished the amazing fan experiences that we’ve been able to deliver.” Cena was joined by Temuera Morrison, Erin Moriarty, Dean Norris and John Rhys-Davies and dozens of other celebrity guests.
