Garlic lovers gathered in droves at The Sharing Farm in Richmond on Saturday for the annual Richmond Garlic Festival. The annual event at the farm’s home in Terra Nova Rural Park celebrates all things garlic. Festival-goers were treated to the beloved root as everything from an ice cream flavour to a popcorn seasoning. Festival director Sarah Drewery told CTV News that garlic, as a food, brings a lot of charisma to a dish. She said some of her favourite uses of the root are in pesto, or any other kind of “delicious Italian garlicky greatness.” “I think it adds a lot of charisma,” she said. “So many cultures use garlic in their cuisines.” The festival is run by the Sharing Farm, through which Drewery has organized five garlic fests. The Sharing Farm is a four-acre non-profit farm run by a small staff and more than 600 volunteers. It shares more than 20,000 pounds of produce annually with the Richmond Food Bank, the Musqueam Free Market, and community food programs. Admission to Saturday’s festival was by donation, with proceeds helping support the farm’s mission.
