These were the most-borrowed books from Vancouver libraries in 2025

What have Vancouverites been reading in 2025? The Vancouver Public Library has published its annual list of the top 10 most-borrowed books of the year for adults, teenagers and kids, which might help bookworms put together their reading lists for the new year.

For adults, the self-help essay collection 101 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think by Brianna Wiest was the most popular book for the third year in a row. Indigenous botanist Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass also retained its spot in second place. The 19^th installment of Louise Penny’s popular Quebec-set mystery series, The Grey Wolf, was the third most-borrowed book.

The fantasy and dystopian genres remained a hit for YA readers, with A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas taking the top spot followed by Suzane Collins’ two prequels to The Hunger Games series.

Graphic novels were once again the go-to pick for kids, all of the top 10 most-borrowed kids’ books being comics. The top four most popular reads were installments of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, and Baby-Sitters Little Sister and The Baby-Sitters Club series were also popular.
