‘The coaches are going now’: Video shows brawling at B.C. minor hockey game

An investigation is underway into an on-ice fracas at a minor hockey game in B.C.’s Okanagan over the weekend.

An investigation is underway into brawling at a minor hockey game in B.C.’s Okanagan over the weekend, some of which was caught on camera.

Videos obtained by CTV News show several players involved in an altercation at Kal Tire Place in Vernon on Sunday, while one player is curled up on the ice nearby.

At one point, two men begin trading blows as well.

“Oh, the coaches are going now,” a voice says behind the camera. “Oh my God.”

Later, another physical altercation breaks out between a man and a younger person off the ice.

“That’s (an expletive) minor, buddy!” someone yells during the fracas.

It’s unclear what led up to the violence.

The Greater Vernon Minor Hockey Association and the Salmon Arm Minor Hockey Association have issued similar statements confirming a “thorough review” is underway into an incident during a U18 recreational hockey game.

“The safety, respect and well-being of our players, officials, volunteers and families remain our top priority,” both statements read. “Further information will be shared as appropriate once the investigation is complete.”

The two associations said they won’t be commenting further in the meantime, but urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has video of what happened to come forward.

The statements do not confirm whether anyone was seriously hurt during the fighting. CTV News reached out to B.C. Hockey for more information, but has not received a response.

A spokesperson for the Vernon RCMP detachment said there was no record of officers being called to the arena Sunday.
