Suspicious death investigation underway after body found in B.C. gravel yard

Mounties on Vancouver Island have launched a suspicious death investigation after the body of a woman was discovered in a gravel yard near Duncan.

The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP says officers responded to the discovery in the 3900 block of Cliffs Road on Tuesday. The area borders a large, forested area along the Cowichan River just west of the city limits.

A statement from the RCMP detachment says the woman’s death is considered suspicious and investigators were still gathering evidence from the area on Wednesday.

Forensic investigators and police dogs are assisting in the case and the B.C. Coroners Service is conducting its own investigation into the circumstances of the woman’s death.

“There is no further information available at this time,” Cpl. Alex Bérubé said in a brief statement about the incident.
